It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to my Fitness Blog. For those of you who are playing rugby, but for whatever reason don’t have someone to coach you in the gym or write out your training plan and you struggle with what it is you should and shouldn’t do, you have come to the right place!
The aim of this blog is to provide you with useful information on how to make your gym training carry over to your game whilst still chasing other common goals such as size, strength and power – all whilst reducing your chance of injuries.
In the blogs to follow, I will be writing about a variety of fitness topics that I think are important to all rugby players. These blogs will primarily cover practical training tips for more efficient gym programs ranging from general program layouts to specific training methods for improving particular fitness goals (e.g. acceleration, strength, etc.).
I have playing rugby for over seven years. I have gained valuable XV’s experience playing with the Bedford Blues championship side and Academy, the USA U20’s, and a number of national 2 clubs at the Hooker position.
I currently work as the strength and conditioning coach for the University of Bedfordshire’s men’s rugby team and play as a utility back in London 1 and on the sevens circuit with Ronin 7s and Find Rugby Now 7s men’s team.
My experience playing with high level teams as well as my strength and conditioning knowledge, will allow me to share interesting training methods, tips and insights with players ranging from positions 1 to 15.
As a player, coach, or avid rugby fan who happens to come across this blog looking for training advice, you will have access to tried and true training methods I have learnt and tested on myself.
Rest assured that when it comes to training for strength, power and speed, you are in good hands.
