HSBC Sevens World Series 2012/2013 Preview

England coach and captain look forward to the series kick off

The first leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series 2012/2013 gets underway on Australia’s Gold Coast this weekend (13th and 14th October) and it promises to be the tightest and most competitive series ever.

New Zealand are the reigning champions, but England – led by head coach Ben Ryan and captain Rob Vickerman – are quietly confident of giving the Kiwi team a strong challenge and improving on last year’s fourth place finish.

The England team have a core squad of 19 players for the 9 tournament campaign (including our very own blogger, Chris Cracknell). Adding extra spice is the prospect of Team GB potentially playing in the 2016 Olympics and this is expected to raise the profile of rugby sevens over the next few years.

In this video Ben Ryan and Rob Vickerman talk about the forthcoming tournament on the Gold Coast, the series in general, plus Ben reveals how FC Barcelona have influenced his teams style.
