FRN is thrilled to be taking part in the Doom Bar London Beach Rugby Tournament in Covent Garden this Saturday. The event is truly a not to be missed 5-a-side touch rugby tournament, which will be taking place for the first time at this iconic location in the heart of London.
Throughout the tournament, 32 teams and 320 competitors will compete on an imported sand pitch with 80 tons of sand with five players and five rolling substitutes.
The event is hosted by City Beach Rugby, which has devised the concept of moving beach rugby tournaments to iconic places around the UK.
Director of City Beach Rugby, Myles Waud, said:
“The idea has really caught the imagination of the rugby world. People love the uniqueness of it.”
The tournament in Covent Garden is the flagship event in 2013, with the view to host further tournaments in Dublin, Edinburgh and Cardiff in 2014.
Tournament
Friday is the corporate day, which will feature touch teams from finance companies, property companies, insurance companies and professional services companies. This will include teams from HSBC and Barclays.
Saturday will be a club day, which will include clubs sides like Richmond, invitational sides like the Flair Bears and FRN and two international sides from France.
The tournament will also host two exhibition matches, which will include a Friday fixture where the School of Hard Knocks elite team will play against a Wasps legends team with players like Lawrence Dallaglio and Josh Lewsey.
Waud said:
“I think it’s going to be brilliant because it’s something no one has ever seen before…It will be sociable and very fun but perhaps quite competative as well.”
Free Admission
Admission to the event is FREE for all spectators, so we encourage you to get down to Covent Garden this Friday and Saturday and check out some of the excitement (and support the FRN team)!
