Bournemouth 7s 2013 Review

IMG_0226This year the Bournemouth 7s Festival celebrated its 6th Anniversary in style by producing the biggest and best festival to date. The Festival was sold out well in advance of the weekend for the first time in it’s history.

Over the weekend, the tournament witnessed 20,000 sport lovers and Festival goers descend on the Festival to enjoy two days of enthralling sport and entertainment, reaffirming the Festivals status as the worlds biggest sport and music festival.

Our Find Rugby Now 7’s men’s team took part in the Carlsberg Cup and faced some fierce opposition against Sherrards 7s (last year’s Carlsberg Cup winners) and Buffalo Sailors on day 1. However, the boys managed to clinch a much-needed victory against the Beer & Rugby BeerBarians, which took us into the second day of competition.

IMG_0085On the second day we faced Squeeze Balls in the semi-final and got the victory to guarantee us a showdown in the plate final against the 14 Lonely Goats.

The match was evenly matched and FRN was ahead by a try for most of the second half. However, a missed tackle and some quick speed on the edge of the pitch left us one try short in the last-minute of the match as we saw the plate slip from our grip.

Special mention goes to our players of the tournament – Albert Tayedzerwa and Harry Taylor, who both showed some great pace and true class on the pitch.

Despite the slight disappointment on the pitch, the team had a great time throughout the festival weekend. The camping and festival atmosphere was incredible and the fancy dress was memorable to say the least!

IMG_0016The weekend was also a great way for our team to come together and bond both on and off the pitch – the perfect start to the 7s season.

All the boys are already looking forward to next year’s tournament, which will be taking place 23-25 May 2014.

Hats off to the Diamond Sporting Group, who did a great job planning the tournament – thanks for making it all happen! We’ll see you all again next year!
